Girls Birthday Party | Blue Paris Pool Party

I have such fun friends. They party with picture-worthiness, and I love that they let me share them with you. Here’s a guest post from my friend Christina who you’ll recognize (despite her sassy new haircut) from flying kites, Spring Break with pie, School Frames and Medieval Times.

So my daughter asked for a Blue Paris party for her 5th birthday… wait, what? We’re having a pool party!

Inspired by an idea page from Birthday Express, out came our “Poolside in Paris” party. Basically it is black and white damask paired with Tiffany’s blue. But could I build up a whole party around just that???

After ordering core supplies from the idea page, and despite pulling from many sources, the whole thing came together in one week’s time. It helped that I finally discovered that I live within 10 minutes of a one-stop shopping center with a Jo-Ann’s, Michael’s and Hobby Lobby (whose bridal sections were especially helpful). It did not help that I forgot to heed the advice found on MommyUpgrade about just how long it takes to poof out those tissue paper pom poms. I bought mine, but Trista has the DIY step by step right here. Party City and Etsy filled in the rest of my supplies.

Oh, there was just one more thing – the cookies! My daughter had her heart set on the party favor being iced cookies in the shape of the Eiffel Tower. I ordered a cookie cutter in plenty of time but then didn’t get a baker lined up. All the bakers on Etsy and Facebook were sweet and responsive but they all book up at least 1 month in advance. A major mom fail was brewing.

Luckily, since I’m not even allowed in my own kitchen and have no baking equipment, Sabrina – from the now famous Mommy Upgrade Craft Exchange, came to my rescue. (Note from Trista, we now refer to Sabrina as the Red Cross of Crafting, she’s come to our aid so many times!)

After-the-fact she came up with the brilliant idea of a Paris, TX party — well, the cookies were bit reminiscent of oil rigs – and they would be cute accompanied by “Merci Ya’ll” on the favor tags. Love it! BTW, if you have the stuff to make the cookies yourself, try out Trista’s great iced shortbread cookie recipe.

Here’s the final result. Voila!
