Disney Planes Fire & Rescue Event

There are some pretty excited 6 year olds in my world. They’re counting the days until the much-anticipated new Planes movie from Disney opens on Friday, July 18th. I’ll admit I was also jazzed when the Disney Store asked us to come to a preview event, but then crushed when I realized we’d be out of town. I didn’t even have the heart to tell the Princess Cupcake what we were missing. I did however ask the mom of her future husband (She informed us of this and shhhh don’t tell her Daddy) if they might like to go in our place? It’s sounds like they had a fab time. This is what my crafty friend Sabrina got to do, and yes, you’ll see from the photos that her son has a black eye from a soccer game gone wrong. You can thank Sabrina for braving the hateful stares of people in the mall to take “Drew-Drew” to the Summer Event and premier party at the Disney Store so you could get a sneak peak. 🙂

Need a new idea to escape the summer heat while the keeping the kids entertained? Did you know that Disney Stores offer these amazing summer play day events?  And to top it off, they are FREE. I was lucky enough to be invited to sample one of their Planes Fire & Rescue events to get a sneak peak at the new movie. My son, who turns six today, loves the original Disney Planes movie! He cannot wait for Fire and Rescue to come out – in fact we’ve already bought tickets for the release on Friday — and was just as excited to learn about the Disney Store event as I was.

When we first arrived, we took a look around the entire store, but spent some serious gawking time on the new Planes toys. Then, we got to preview a special sneak peak of the movie, and learned all about the new characters: Blade Ranger (Ed Harris), Lil’Dipper (Julie Bowen), Windlifter (Wes Studi), Cabbie (Dale Dye) and the Smokejumpers, and how this fearless team battles a massive wildfire.

We also got another exclusive look and link to download the new Disney Planes: Fire & Rescue App, which has several games and activities for your child to play with. (These all received thumbs up from Drew.)

The kids really loved the “training” where they practiced being an Aerial Fire Fighter. First, they learned how to fly low (crawling with arms out under a tarp).

Next, they learned about parachuting by tossing a smoke jumper with a parachute onto a target. Finally, they learned about search and rescue by participating in a scavenger hunt around the store (rescuing lost deer, John Deere tractors of course.) After training, Drew received some fun swag that included a certificate stating he is an “official Piston Peak hero,” cute character stickers and tattoos, trading cards, and a fun Planes Fire & Rescue balloon.

My advice? Take a break from the heat and go to the mall! A list of the Disney Store Summer Events can be found here. And lots of fun clips from the movie are below. Enjoy!
