Greedy Elf on a Shelf Ate All the Jelly Beans

elf on a shelf jelly beansDecember 2: “Chintz”, as our Elf on a Shelf  was named yesterday, decided to show his true colors last night by not only diving into the jelly bean container and tossing out all the candy, but he also threw a few handfuls into the Princess Cupcake’s bed.

My idea was that she would wake up in a pool of jelly beans (I mean, what kid wouldn’t want to wake up in a bed full of jelly beans?!) and then out of curiosity go look to see if there were any left in the jar and see Chintz.

Didn’t work out that way.

There was a near wake up during Operation Elf on a Shelf thanks to some over-exuberant pugs who were VERY curious as to what I was doing, loudly snorting my every move and mistakenly thinking I am playing rough with them while actually pushing them away as I tried to sprinkle the jelly beans around her head. Then they tried to steal the jelly beans from the Cupcake’s pillow. It’s a miracle she didn’t wake up.

The next morning Cupcake went looking for Chintz. She started in her room by pulling back her covers to see if he was hidden from view. That’s when she finally saw the jelly beans. I was convinced the pugs had eaten all of them since she hadn’t mentioned them when she came in my room earlier.

“MOM! Look at that! Why are there JELLY BEANS in my BED?”

She saw a nice sized stash of jelly beans. What I saw was the red jelly bean remnants that she had drooled on so the color came off on her sheets and blankets — and as I realized on the way to soccer, on her arm as well. Elf on a Shelf Fail.

Then she says, “Mom, how about I clean them up with my mouth?”

After we both stopped laughing, she finally caught sight of this:

She clasped her hands over her mouth and stopped still, clearly not expecting this. “MOM! Look at Chintz! How did he get in there? We have to clean this up!” And then a few moments later, “Silly Chintz.”

It was worth the extra stain-fighter.
