Getting our pets’ food, “Just Right”

Six days into the new year. How are those resolutions working for you? How many have you broken so far? I’m doing great. I haven’t broken a single one – because I stopped making “resolutions” a few years ago. Now, I take a softer approach and concentrate on areas of my life that may have been neglected, need some attention or a fresh approach, and set some goals.

One way I’m making my life a little simpler and better for my pets, is to try out a new custom formula food delivery service for the puggies. Previously, we’ve been doing our best to find a food that they’d both like, that was grain-free (they have allergies), and good for their aging bodies. And convenient. It has to be convenient and affordable.

It’s not that easy. Figuring it out, then once you find one that’s acceptable, the grocery store changes up their mix and doesn’t carry it for a while or anymore – or one pug gets bored of it and refuses to eat. I don’t have the luxury of shopping at another retailer during my week on the hunt for the next perfect dog food that the Princess Pug won’t turn her stubby nose up at. For gosh sakes, the even hamsters get their food from Amazon.

So when I was contacted to try out this new Just Right program from Purina – I was all ears.

If you’re familiar with Stitch Fix, imagine this for your pets (dogs or cats). Go online to justrightpets.com and complete a profile for each of your fur family. It will ask you questions like, what breed,

how active is he/she, (Beignet — not at all)

what flavors do they like to eat, what is the coat like (shiny or dry), how do they eat (graze throughout the day or scarf it all down), is their skin itchy from allergies, what do you not want in your blend, etc. They even ask about their poop.

I’m guessing that’s a little TMI on Beignet. Anyway, then automagically, the program formulates a blend that is matched to their metabolism and your indicated preferences.

I’m telling you, it’s brilliant.

And furthermore, the bags come with their photos on them so you know which food goes to which dog.

AND – you get to name your blends. Honestly, that was the hardest part.

So we have the Princess Pug blend for Beni, and for Beau Beau, the Beaureguarde’s Buddy blend (we call him, “buddy” for some reason that we’ve long forgotten).

You can order one delivery or set it for auto delivery so it’s convenient too. At any time, you can go in and change the profile of their blend and it will KEEP A HISTORY OF IT. For persnickety pug owners like me, that’s another bonus. I can’t keep straight in my head who likes what and what we bought when.

AND – newsflash, our senior pugs will not be eating what our new puppy will be eating. Because, there’s 63 dog years of difference between them.

It’s HER dog. We all have one now. We’re done. Three people, three dogs. Chez Perot is officially at capacity for K-9’s.

Yeah, so our fur family is expanding and our food profiles will too. Thankfully, it’s so stinkin’ easy to set up a new animal, I can have Boo’s food delivered and ready for him when he makes his arrival, and schedule his deliveries more frequently or with bigger bags because he will be considerably larger than his 20 pound roommates. Plus, his breed requires different composition than a toy breed does. Purina knows that so I don’t have to figure it out.
