MacKenzie-Childs inspired DIY

It’s MCM (Man Crush Monday) and I’m going to take a minute to show you something Big Daddy’s been up to lately.

He knows how much I love MacKenzie-Childs, but neither of us love the prices.

For the last craft exchange challenge, I made some MacKenzie-Childs inspired ornaments using the required Martha Stewart Crafts fringe scissors, flocking powder and tinted decoupage,

and I think that may have set the ball rolling.

Being somewhat of a closet painter, he’s taken it upon himself to create some MacKenzie-Childs-inspired pieces for me using his dusty acrylic paints, some triple glaze polyurethane and something I lack: a steady hand.

He never remembers to take before photos. And sometimes not even the after before he gifts it away… but here are his recent masterpieces that we’ve kept.

He made these for me for Halloween/Thanksgiving.

Love. <3

He’d be mad that I showed them before he painted the stems gold but whateves. I like them as is.

And then he found an accent table that he wanted to update (sorry, no before photo but trust me, it was due), and painted this for our powder bath.

As you might imagine, we now have a growing pile of things for him to paint his magic on because upcycling in this house is somewhat of an obsession. And even though we do have a few treasured MacKenzie Childs pieces already, these are my fast favorites.

Pretty good #MCM huh?

  1. loved the page on the MC pumpkins and your spouse’s awesome efforts! Wish someone in my family appreciated the coolness of that classic check. I would like to know if your guy has a tutorial on YouTube or elsewhere on painting the Courtly check, mainly the differnet colors of streaks in the ivory checks. Would love to know!
    Thanks!

    • Haha, I wish he would. He has a stack of things to paint for me and other family now that his secret is out. 😉 Maybe I’ll sneak in a video while he’s working on them and post it to periscope. He’d be clueless!
