Repurposed Sorority T-Shirt Quilt

“I can tell you had a lot of fun in college.”

Heh-heh. She’s right. I had a blast. College was fun and I’m not ashamed to admit it. I had a bin full of old sorority shirts to prove it, and a world’s full of intent to teach myself how to make a t-shirt quilt so I could legit find a reason to hang onto them. Because, you know, sisterhood and all that mushy stuff.

Well… I’ve had plenty of years of opportunity to make that quilt, and it wasn’t happening with this mom’s pedal to the metal lifestyle SO… I sent off the lot of them to my friend Traci Gibson with Blue Door Quilt and she made this amazing quilt for me in just a couple of weeks!

It’s PERFECT for cold nights watching movies!

It’s so much better than I would have done – I’m still trying to self-teach how to do all that binding for the edges. (Another thing that’s not happening in my life right now) And she has this huge quilting machine to sew it all together all fancy – which I certainly do not have. Really, there was no reason for me to even try.

I love how she used pieces from my shirts for the border, and she prewashed the back fabric over and over until it didn’t bleed anymore. I totally would have forgotten to do that and ruined my quilt in the first wash!

Now I’m totally addicted. I have another bin of my Mom’s (God rest her soul) travel souvenir sweatshirts that I want to send to Traci for a memory blanket. Traci also just started making sweet memory bears from treasured fabrics (photo coming soon), and she can also make pillows. How special would those be made out of the Cupcake’s favorite dresses? Or maybe out of dress shirts from a loved one?

I am putting this in the “amazing Christmas gift” column. Traci still has some time to take on a few projects to be done before Christmas IF you get your shirts to her before December 1st or, you could send someone a gift certificate too.

You can find Blue Door Quilt online here, or on Facebook here.

This is a sponsored post – all opinions are my own including my crooked photo below. I truly love my quilt — and that someone else had the time to make it!
