The calendar says that the first day of fall is just two days away but it still feels like summer here in DFW! However, the temperatures ARE slowly dropping and my excitement for crisper air, comfy sweaters, apple cider, and pumpkin patches is on the rise! In case you’re feeling the fall vibes too, here are a few fun things to do with your family to get everyone in the mood for autumn!

Grapevine Farmers Market

WHAT: Eat healthy with locally and regionally grown produce from Texas farmers, all in the heart of downtown Grapevine. You’ll find incredible produce, awesome vendors, and the most fascinating selection of food products! The Grapevine outdoor farmers market is an experience you just can’t miss!

Electric Lawn Pop-Up Salsa Party at Klyde Warren Park

WHAT: Silent Revolution Events brings you an Electric Lawn “Pop-Up” Salsa Party. This silent disco party brings together the sounds of New York City, Miami, and Dallas with three DJs competing for your listening pleasure. 

With a simple flick of a switch on wireless LED headsets, you can transport yourself to South America, listening to horns and percussions of Latin Rhythms from Marc Anthony, J Balvin, and Gloria Estefan. Slide that switch up and you’re in sunny Miami, dancing to hard-hitting EDM baseline remixes of Drake and Rihanna. One more click and you’re rocking out with Top 40 and today’s hits. Prepare to be vibrant with glow necklaces, glasses, and tribal paint.

Plano Balloon Festival and Run

WHAT: Release your inner child and enjoy a kaleidoscope of color featuring 40-50 colorful hot air balloons, live entertainment on two stages, food vendors galore, arts and crafts booths, kids fun zone, corporate exhibitors, parachute team exhibition, and fireworks show presented by Bimbo Bakeries USA. The weekend also includes a half marathon, 10K, 5K and 1K fun run.

WHEN: September 21-23. Friday, 4-10 pm, Saturday, 6 am – 10 pm, Sunday, 6 am – 7 pm.

Oktoberfest Fort Worth

 WHAT: Enjoy this three-day German festival featuring authentic German food, music, dancing, biergartens, dachshund races, clothing & souvenirs as well as Spaten and other great fall and Oktoberfest craft biers!

WHEN: September 27-29. Thursday and Friday, 5–11 pm and Saturday, 11 am to 12 am.

The State Fair of Texas – “Celebrating Texas Innovation”

WHAT: Celebrate 132 years of tradition this fall with food, festivities, and family fun at The State Fair of Texas. There’s so much to see and do including the Lone Star Nature Art Exhibition, an Ask a Garden Guru Information Booth, the Discovery Art Gallery, Container Gardens 101, the Texas Discovery Gardens and Butterfly House, a natural playscape where kids can explore a tree bark rubbing station, sandpit, rope ladder, swing bridge, and rock-climbing wall, and much more.

Two other exciting events include Rattlesnake Days where visitors can experience one of the largest rattlesnake displays available in the United States spotlighting venom extraction demonstrations by the Kentucky Reptile Zoo (October 12-14), and Butterfly Tag & Release where visitors will have a rare chance to witness or safely tag and release Monarch butterflies before their long migration to Mexico (3 pm daily on the entrance lawn).

Bell Fort Worth Alliance Air Show

WHAT: One of the largest and most successful air shows in the nation. This all-encompassing community event attracts more than 120,000 attendees annually.

Attendees can view a static display of Warbirds, military & general Aircraft and helicopters. Additional features include a discovery zone, kids’ inflatables, simulators, interactive exhibits, helicopter rides, fun food, honor guard memorial and more.

WHEN: October 13-14, 9 am–5 pm; Aerial performances start at 10 am.

Nash Farm: Barn Dance and 18th Annual Fall Round-Up 

WHAT: Join Nash Farm for an old-fashioned 1950s-era Barn Dance on Friday, Oct. 19th. A fried chicken box supper will be provided followed by a dance featuring a live band. Horseshoes and other fun games will be available to play. Then on Saturday, Oct. 20th, experience life on the farm at the 18th Annual Fall Round-Up. Activities may include kitchen gardening, live music, farm animals, blacksmith, and wood carving demonstrations, cotton picking, heritage toys, heritage games, wood-burning stove cooking demonstrations, petting zoo pony rides, apple pie making and more.

WHEN: Friday, October 19th (6:30 pm) and Saturday, October 20, 2018, 10 am-2 pm

Wings Over Dallas WWII Air Show 

WHAT: Watch history comes to life at this year’s Wings Over Dallas WWI Air Show. The interactive event features spectacular flying demonstrations, battle reenactments, veteran appearances, living history encampments, hands-on family activities, aircraft rides, cockpit tours and more. Enjoy a special tribute to the D-Day Invasion featuring an airborne reenactment.

WHEN: October 26-28, Friday 9 am–3 pm, Saturday & Sunday 9 am–5 pm

Pumpkin Carving with Sharks and New Creepy Creatures at Seal Life Grapevine

Come Face-to-Face with New Exotic Reptiles, Underwater Pumpkin Carve-Offs, and More Spooky Sea Fun at Sea Life Grapevine Aquarium.

WHAT: Get your frightening fill of creepy creatures and underwater Halloween happenings at SEA LIFE Grapevine Aquarium. Don your costume and enjoy a few tricks and a lot of fun treats alongside sharks, crocodiles, and other eerie critters. Be sure to stop by on select days throughout October to watch trained divers jump in the ocean tank with sharks for an underwater pumpkin-carving contest.

WHEN: October 17, 20, 24, 27 and 31; Monday – Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. – last admission two hours prior to closing.

  • Underwater Pumpkin Carve-Off: It’s hard enough carving Halloween pumpkins on dry land, let alone submerged in a 160,000-gallon ocean tank surrounded by sharks, rays, sea turtles, fish, and other marine life. Watch as animals get in on the action while divers compete in underwater pumpkin carve-offs, then vote for your favorite design. (11:30 a.m. on scheduled days.)
  • New Creepy Crawly Creatures: Meet SEA LIFE Grapevine’s newest exotic reptiles in Rainforest Adventure that include a legless lizard, hognose snake, and crocodile skink. (12 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. daily)
  • Frightful Fish Facts: Learn all about the most mysterious and scary-looking marine animals during Sting Ray Bay educational talks. (11:30 a.m., 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. daily)
  • Spooky Seas Scavenger Hunt: How many scary skulls can you spot hiding inside our marine life tanks?
  • Trick-Or-Treat: Don your best costume on Halloween and go under the sea for trick-or-treating. Say the magic phrase after every educational talk for a sweet treat. (October 31 only. Educational talks occur throughout the day. See website for times and details.)

Fall Family Fun at Vetro Glassblowing Studio & Gallery: Grow Your Own Glass Pumpkin

WHAT: Things are heating up this fall at Vetro Glassblowing Studio & Gallery in historic downtown Grapevine. Help grow your very own hand-blown glass pumpkin! If your kids love pumpkin picking and carving, they will love this unique fall experience.

Select from six fabulous fall colors, apply the colors to the hot molten glass gather, and actually heat the chosen colors in Vetro’s 2,000-degree furnace. Vetro’s professional glassblowers will then blow and shape the glass into a carefully crafted pumpkin.

WHAT: Get your costumes ready for some spooky family fun and have a haunting good time at LEGOLAND® Discovery Center’s Brick or Treat— the Halloween party built for kids!
