The cool thing about summer camps is that kids get to experience a sense of community, learn how to work well with one another, manage conflict, and build relationships with other campmates and adult mentors. And they get to have a blast while participating!

But how do you even start the process of trying to find a summer camp that will be best suited for your child? Have you ever tried to compile a list of ALL the kids’ camps available in a part of the country with a population of more than 7.1 million? Yeah, neither have I! If I had, my website might have crashed!

There are camps for arts and crafts, cake decorating, computers, cooking, creative writing, engineering, foreign language learning, gardening, music, theater and dance, outdoor enthusiasts, photography, robotics, science and math, self-defense, sports, technology, woodworking, camps for children with special needs, and SO much more!

So where do you begin?

START with our handy summer camp organizer. You can download it here

Choose a camp that best aligns with your child’s personal interests and that will reward him/her with the most tangible experience. According to James Spearin, YMCA senior vice president of youth development, “those tangible experiences lead to building the foundations of stronger children who can lead others, show empathy, navigate through difficult group dynamics, value the differences in everyone, and give of oneself for the benefit of others. These are skills that the best in our society show throughout life.”

What follows is a non-comprehensive list of some camps in the DFW area that I thought your kids might enjoy followed by links to several extensive camp resources you can peruse. Don’t wait too long to get your kids registered though—camps fill up fast!

Happy Camping!
