Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3 Review

“Mommy, what are ChiLAwas? “Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3

“They’re dogs.”

“No they aren’t. “

You have to forgive the 4 year old Princess Cupcake — we have pugs. And truthfully, I don’t think she believes they are dogs either. They’re known to her as “Beni and BeauBeau,” short for Mon Peitie Beignet and Augustus Beauregauade. But whatever we call them, they’re 100% family. And she considers them that way.

They are family in every sense of the word. They celebrate each birthday, Christmas and Easter with us. They endure costumes at Halloween. They share blankets when it’s snuggle time, and they eat with our meals. She even forgives them when they eat Christmas tree lightbulbs and cigars and her favorite squinkies, and they toot so stinky that they wake us up at night. And yes, we paid the equivalent of a small college tuition when they decided to eat an entire bag of chocolate chips and had to spend two days in doggie ICU. Because that’s what family does.

The Cupcake is an only child by human standards, but she views “the puggies” as her siblings. To non-dog people, that *might* be weird. For those of you who only travel to vacation destinations that accommodate your four-legged family, I think we’re on the same wavelength and you understand. The puggies were 6 months old littermates when the Princess came home, and having grown “up” together, the family feeling is mutual for both species.

We are certifiable dog people and have the doggie stroller to prove it. But our love for all things K9 is only the beginning of why we love the Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3 movie so much.

Set in a swanky hotel (all dogs should be allowed to stay in swanky hotels!) Papi and Chloe return for another hilarious adventure, this time with their own family in tow. Set your cuteness meter to overload for all the springy little chihuahaus, but it’s off the chart for little Rosa who is the runt of the litter.

More so than any of the other Beverly Hills Chihuahua movies, the Cupcake could identify with Rosa as she carried her squeeeky toy everywhere (Cupcake carries a blanket), she overcame her fear of swimming (Cupcake took swimming lessons all summer – without swimmies), and has to find her inner strength to save the day (sometimes you really have to jump in that pool). I won’t spoil the ending, but I can tell you that when Papi and Chloe go all out to make their little Rosa feel special with her Quinceanera, the parallel was not lost on the Cupcake who recently had her own royal celebration for her coming to age of 4 party.

We both thoroughly enjoyed Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3, and even if you don’t regularly wake up with a chihuahua, pug, or fill in with dog of your choice, snoring beside you on your pillow, the messages of family, self-confidence and the daschund mariachi band are sure to make you smile the whole way through.
