How to make a tassel garland

If someone asked you to make a craft project in the theme of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, what would you make? That was the exact challenge for our 7th Craft Exchange! These ladies rallied with some incredible projects, and today, I’m featuring one of our new members, Alli. She is the amazing talent behind AlliK Design, a custom lettering company (you can follow her on Instagram). Her work is featured at The Vintage House in Carrollton, and the new Kendra Scott store in Dallas, in one of my previous give-aways, and on many, many walls all over town. 🙂

I adore this project and have it hanging in my office. Here’s in her words, the inspiration and how-to behind it.

What did you make?

A tassel garland

What was your inspiration for it?

I have been wanting to make one for myself, so when my plan A didn’t work I knew I already had all of the materials I needed. I added a banner with my favorite Audrey Hepburn quote to spruce it up a bit.

What materials did you use?

Tissue paper, string, hot glue, scissors, cardstock, gold ink pen

Where did you get your materials?

Michaels and Targot

Cost of materials:

Around $10? A lot of it I already had.

How did you make it?

Step one: I cut and glued the tissue paper like I was instructed to on the tutorial here: http://www.thesweetestoccasion.com/2011/10/diy-tassel-garland/

Step two: I hand wrote my favorite quote from Audrey in gold ink

Step three: I didn’t have a whole punch so I made slits in the cardstock for the sting to go through.

Step four: I strung 4 tassels then strung the cardstock banner then strung the other 4 tassels…done!

How long did it take per item?

It took me all day Saturday just to cut the tissue papers, an hour to glue, an hour to write the quotes, and 1.5 hours to string.

What was the hardest part about making this?

My cat thinking the tissue paper was a new toy.

What was the funnest part about making this?

Seeing it put together and hung up.

Do you like it?

Yes I love it!!

If you made it again, what would you change?

Making it in a room with closed doors, away from cats and husbands that don’t understand how thin tissue paper is.

Would you make it again and why?

Yes I want to make myself one, and maybe for birthday gifts. Although its time consuming its cheap.

THANK YOU Alli! I love my fun garland. I could cover my walls with your art!
