Tricks of the mind’s eye, that’s the newest educational fun at Frisco’s Sci-tech Discovery Center. Eyellusions is a fascinating new exhibit running through January 3rd, 2016, and features the magical world of illusions and the actual science behind them.
Through interactive displays, each Eyellusions exhibit addresses the neuroscience behind the seemingly explainable tricks and how they are so darn believable. Each of the stations is themed from the Victorian era when such magic was the most prevalent form of entertainment. Despite the distinctly historic flair, experiencing each exhibit will help you understand even modern trickery, such as the recent controversial “eyellusions” of the infamous striped dress. Is it gold and white or blue and black? Change the ambient light to see!
I brought a few of my Brownie Girl Scouts to try out the new exhibits. They’re already big fans of the Sci-tech Discovery Center but really enjoyed jumping into each of the stations and learning about them and how these tricks came about.
They thought the fairies story about how two girls became famous for “authentic” photos of fairies — when it was actually pictures they had cut out of their books — was hilarious.
The Alice in Wonderland room with the sloped floor and angled ceiling was probably my favorite,
along with the galloping horses as a close second.

The girls really liked playing “dummies” even more than I could have guessed,
and they all climbed into the time-machine together to “disappear.”
We skipped the Victorian séance, but I should have snuck away to see it AND the movie tutorial. There’s truly something for everyone to enjoy throughout this fascinating experience. It definitely makes science cool!
And of course, who doesn’t love the bubbles and the hurricane machine?! They’re not part of the travelling exhibit, but it’s a must-do whenever you’re at Sci-tech!
