Dallas Arboretum

Okay Dallas. It’s finally stopped raining. You’ve got just a few days left to go get some nature on.

That’s right. Swallow some Claritin and get out to the Dallas Arboretum for the last weekend of Dallas Blooms.

It is spectacular. I’ve been for several years but our pilgrimage this spring took my breath away. The Princess Cupcake and I made our annual visit to the Dallas Arboretum on Good Friday for the Eddie Coker concert on the hill, overlooking gorgeous White Rock Lake. If you have kids and haven’t been to this annual event, you should be forced to watch a day’s worth of Caillou videos as punishment. Adults and kids alike LOVE Eddie Coker and his silly songs – forget that his voice is pitch perfect and he runs around the field like the pied piper with children racing after him. Moms are stalking him for photos and kids are trying to shove fruit in his mouth. (You’d have to be there to understand.) His songs about the Woo Woo Dance and Regina the Octopus will stick with you – in a good way – for days after, and you can’t help but smile when you think of all the dads who willingly go on stage to dance with Eddie. Yes – I said the DADS.

Concert or no, the setting could not be more picturesque. Grab your picnic basket, a blanket and go explore the 66 acres before they change the flowers out. It’s likely the prettiest place in Dallas. Your spirit will be soothed and your camera card full – I promise.

We have an annual membership and have for years. It’s so worth it for the free admission, free parking, the many discounts and added member benefits and reciprocal garden admissions.

Dallas Blooms at the Dallas Arboretum runs through April 7th. Learn more about the Dallas Arboretum here.
