Spring Into Fun With This Exciting 2018 Activities Roundup!

Spring break and warmer weather is here — finally! There’s so much fun in DFW – we can hardly list them all here (but there’s more on our calendar). Here’s a few activities from March to May that we think are fab. 

MARCH

DALLAS BLOOMS at Dallas Arboretum and Botanical GardenI mean, who doesn’t love the Arboretum in spring? You have to get the tulip photos, am I right? Home to the largest floral festival in the Southwest, the Dallas Arboretum is a beautiful site to see during Dallas Blooms. The garden features over 500,000 florals from tulips to pansies, making it a great place to visit this spring.

When: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. through April 8th

DISCOVERY DAYS: CODING at Perot Museum of Nature and Science – Explore the process of coding and celebrate the versatile minicomputer Raspberry Pi’s birthday. Turn everyday objects into a computer keyboard, learn how video games are made, and explore the concept of virtual reality.

 

When: March 10th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (with exclusive member access from 9-10 a.m.)

Where: Perot Museum of Nature and Science, 2201 N. Field St., Dallas, TX

Cost: FREE to members and included with general admission for non-members

FREE FAMILY FUN WEEK at Amon Carter Museum of American ArtTweens and teens and their families can explore, hear stories and create their own artist-inspired works of art. The museum will offer gallery games, creativity challenges, printmaking, and an art project that has been designed to get older children to create, compete and consider American art in a new way.

When: March 14th through March 17th from 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Where: Amon Carter Museum of American Art, 3501 Camp Bowie Blvd., Fort Worth, TX

Cost: FREE

Note: Parents and caregivers should plan on staying at the museum with kids younger than 16 during Fun Week hours. Recommended for: 11 and older

ESCAPE FRISCO PUBLIC LIBRARY in the Children’s Program Room of the Frisco Library – Work as a team to solve this interactive mystery! Find clues, solve the puzzle, and Escape the Room!

When: March 14th from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Where: 6101 Frisco Square Boulevard Frisco, TX 75034

Cost: FREE

Note: Recommended ages: Grades 6 -12  

“VIDEO GAME SCIENCE” SLEEPOVER at Perot Museum of Nature and Science – Snore and explore with behind-the-scenes access to the Museum’s 11 exhibit halls and overnight adventures await children ages 6-14 and their adult (21 and older) chaperones. Enjoy exclusive demonstrations, hands-on discovery, a late-night snack, a 3D movie and light breakfast. Parking is FREE for sleepover guests!

When: March 16th to March 17th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.

Where: Perot Museum of Nature and Science, 2201 N. Field St., Dallas, TX

Cost: $45 per child and $30 per adult chaperone. Sleepovers are open to groups of all sizes – from a parent and child to entire organizations.

Note: Designed especially for children ages 6-14. Children under 6 may not attend.

TWILIGHT SAFARI NIGHT HIKE at the Dallas Zoo – What goes on after the lights go out at the Zoo? Come see for yourself with a Dallas Zoo Twilight Safari Night Hike! Enjoy the fascinating world of animals through a Zoo tour, activities, special talks, and an opportunity to see some of the animals up-close.

When: March 23rd from 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Where: 650 S. R.L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX 75203

 

Cost: $20 per youth (ages 6+); $20 per adult (no free chaperones)

SPRING FAMILY ADVENTURE at Klyde Warren ParkEnjoy family-friendly activities, crafts and games. Then hop on by the Dallas Morning News Reading and Game Room cart to check-in for the scavenger hunt at 1:00 p.m. A prize will be awarded to the family that completes the challenges with the fastest time.

When: March 31st at 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Cost: FREE and open to the public

APRIL

FREE MOVIE SCREENINGS at The Shops at Park Lane: Bring a blanket, a friend, and your appetite for superheroes, comedy, and animation during this year’s movie lineup!

Arrive early and secure a spot on The Park (a landscaped lawn in the heart of the shopping center (between Starbucks Coffee and Zoës Kitchen) or dine on one of the patios overlooking the big screen.

Take advantage of special offers from participating retail tenants and pre-show activities. Alcoholic beverages are available for purchase on restaurant patios. Alcohol and coolers are not permitted on the lawn.

Wonder Woman: April 6th at 8:30 p.m.

Wonder: April 13th at 8:30 p.m.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle: April 20th at 8:30 p.m.

Coco: April 27th at 8:30 p.m.

Where: Located at the southeast corner of Park Lane and Central Expressway, across from NorthPark Center.

Cost: The event is FREE and open to the public. Weather permitting. Schedule subject to change.

When: April 14th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (with exclusive member access from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.)

Where: Perot Museum of Nature and Science, 2201 N. Field St., in Dallas, TX

Cost: FREE to members and included with general admission for non-members.

SOCIAL SCIENCE: FORMULATE at Perot Museum of Nature and Science (ages 21 and older)- Who says cocktails and science don’t mix? Have some serious grown-up fun with math challenges, physics experiments and astronomy, plus pop-up performances and brews. Signature cocktails and food provided by Wolfgang Puck. If you’re looking for a fun night out in Dallas, this event is the thing to do!

When: April 27th from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m.

Where: Perot Museum of Nature and Science, 2201 N. Field St., Dallas, TX

Cost: $15 for members and $25 for non-members

JOURNEY TO SPACE 3D at Perot Museum of Nature and Science Journey to Space 3D will both inspire a new generation of young people to dream of new horizons in space, and engender a new appreciation for the accomplishments of the Space Shuttle Program among an older generation who came to take it for granted.
