NYE 2017

What a year.

I hear you, so many are ready to say adios to 2016. I get it.

It wasn’t my worst year though. I mean, we’ve had so much worse. And as far as I’m concerned, any year that you’re above ground is worth celebrating.

For serious. I am grateful for every day that God gives me – even the rotten ones where I spill my Starbucks and it sets off a chain of events from flat tires to bird poop. I’m grateful that the past several months are behind us, I’m grateful that my loved ones are still here. I’m really happy that my own health challenges of the last quarter are in my rearview.

I’m grateful that I have a smart, funny, athletic, little girl who still thinks I hung the moon and a loving husband who puts up with me day in and day out. I’m forever thankful for our two smelly, nearly deaf, senior pugs that want nothing more than to cuddle on my lap every chance they get.

I’m grateful that I have clients that I truly, truly enjoy working with — like, I look forward to their calls and excited about their projects. I’m grateful for my many friends I’ve met IRL and virtually online through this blog and social media. You all make life so rich.

I’m celebrating a good year this NYE. Not a great, fantastic year, but it was a good year. And I’m welcoming a 2017 that is filled with promise. Oh so much promise. One that will be chock full of laughter and love, friends and family, and yes, more fur. (Puppy arrives in one month!)

I don’t make resolutions any more, but I do set goals, and I aim higher in lots of areas of my life. One result that I can credit to 2016 was to have fresh flowers in my house all the time. I used to argue it was an excessive indulgence but honestly, it brings me so much happiness, that I consider an extra $5 a week at the grocery as money well spent. So in the spirit of my happy vase full of kitchen blooms, I’m raising a glass to you, my interweb friends, for coming along this journey with me. Cheers to your health, may you be blessed with an abundance of beauty in your life, and may 2017 be all that you hope it will be.

I created a special cocktail to ring in the New Year and the recipe is below. It’s a sipping drink, (well, I sip it but I’m no party girl anymore either.) with a little sweetness and bursting with florals – which I suppose makes it girly and I’m okay with that. I hope you enjoy it, my friends.

ingredients for prosecco bouquet

Prosecco Bouquet

½ oz Botanist Gin (If you haven’t had this, go get it. I don’t care if you don’t like Gin because I despise Gin. This, this Botanist, I love. It’s infused with flowers indigenous from Islay, Scotland, and it’s really lovely.)

½ oz St. Germain Elderflower liquor

½ oz Lillet (This is a French aperitif wine and yes, you saw James Bond drink it in Casino Royale.)

¼ – ½ tsp Lavender Simple Syrup. (This is what I use – I even put it in iced tea!)

lavender simple syrup

½ cup Prosecco (use a dry Prosecco as the rest of the ingredients are sweet. This is a Luna d’Or.)

A small squeeze of fresh lemon and a strip of zest in the glass

Mix all together and enjoy. I believe this gets even tastier as it sits and the flavors meld together.

slainte gold glasses

Special thanks to Gifts.com for inspiring this post. They provided the beautiful entertaining glasses that I will toast all year with, and gorgeous wooden serving platter with our family monogram that is so perfect for a side of charcuterie! I was able to personalize the glasses and chose “Slainte” which is a traditional Irish toast for good health, of which I hope we all have in 2017.

Happy New Year!
